Having taken a step back from music for a few years, Grant, aka Manatee Commune, casually worked on collecting and categorizing field recordings. While sampling on a trip through Vietnam and organizing a collection built in Washington State, an intimate and gentle sound emerged from the short, melodic loops embedded in the recordings. These snippets became the basis and inspiration for Manatee Commune’s newest releases, of which “Cast” is the first. The track features cut up acoustic guitar bits, a mellow four four beat, Manatee’s signature swirling synthesizers, ghostly vocals and a punchy bassline.
