Captain Planet is back with another single from his upcoming “Sounds Like Home” EP, this time joined by French Creole artist David Walters: “Kité Soufè” is a unique blend of 70’s disco funk with Afro-Caribbean Creole soul. The title advises listeners to “leave your troubles behind,” while the bass and rhythm beckon you to lace up your roller skates or join the Soul Train line dance. In classic Captain Planet fashion, the song is a true gumbo of musical influences, displaying his creative knack for fueling the dance floor with a genre-bending global style. David Walters’ voice smoothly glides over the syncopated percussion and triumphant horns, while vintage synths weave in and out of the lush production, reminiscent of underground hits from the heyday of Paradise Garage. 

The Captain first came across David Walters’ music during the early days of the lockdown, with his songs immediately finding their way into regular rotation on his livestreamed DJ sets. The two artists connected online, leading to a Captain Planet remix of Walters’ latest single, “No One.” Then, earlier this Summer, they were finally able to meet in-person during the Captain’s European tour, becoming instant friends; the two artists even performed the remix live the night they met! A collaboration was quickly in the works, with Walters recording the vocals for what would become “Kité Soufè” in a single sitting. Back in LA, the additions of Tod Simon’s horns and guitar lines from Pat Bailey (Jungle Fire) completed the track. 

“Kité Soufè” is out on Bastard Jazz Recordings November 18th, with the full EP due in the Spring.
